Private Market Labs
Private Market Labs is a first-of-its-kind platform designed to democratize access to business ownership through acquisition. There are 14 million small business owners in the US (and more than 100 million worldwide) that are likely to retire in the next 15 years.
However, due to friction in the mergers and acquisition process, there are only around 40,000 transactions happening in this space per year. It’s clear that solutions are needed to empower buyers and sellers in this space. Without help, millions of successful businesses will close, and the communities around them will disappear. That’s where we come in. At Private Market Labs, we’re using data and technology to help the small business mergers and acquisitions industry become more efficient and equitable.
Our goal is to empower a new generation of diverse entrepreneurs and investors to find, finance, conduct diligence on, and operate successful small businesses at scale. We believe that talented entrepreneurs can come from anywhere, and that having connections within the M&A industry does not need to be a prerequisite for people to buy a successful small business. To date, we have five signed LOIs from enterprise clients that will activate upon the launch of the platform.
We bootstrapped our way to over 550 connections between buyers on one side and deals/seller representatives on the other side, allowing us to prove our initial hypothesis and bring on early customers. Based on this traction, we were able to close our initial angel funding round in November 2022 and we have made crucial hires ahead of our 2023 product launch.
In order to hit our target timeline, we are growing our technical capabilities to finalize the development of our frontend infrastructure and connect seamlessly into our back-end models. As the bubble developer, your most important responsibility is to work with the founding team to get the product to market and maximize the number of product experiments that can be run.
You’ll make key design decisions that will shape the user experience in our Bubble app, together with the Chief Product Officer. At the same time, you’ll decide what components should be built versus bought, and when it’s worth going the extra mile to ship a new feature. As a founding engineer, you’ll also be the de-facto devops engineer. Your work will set the foundation for the future no-code team, which we hope you will build and lead after the product launch and subsequent growth.
