The Software Engineer supports continued development of our internal applications. The person in this position will design and develop solutions for our websites using the Java programming language. This resource will help to transition applications from on premise to scalable, more reliable, applications on the AWS platform.
You can provide millions of Thermo Fisher customers’ direct access to our product information and eBusiness solutions for their healthcare, research, petrochemical, biotechnology and many other science needs
Responsible for analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processes or to improve existing systems. Provides technical knowledge, system design techniques, methodologies, tools, and standards utilized in the IT and business environment. Responsible for obtaining support of the design and for building, testing, and delivering the system solution in a timely manner.
- Analyzes current operational procedures, identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Adheres to the IT Software Development Life Cycle.
- Writes detailed description of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop or modify computer program.
- Reviews computer system capabilities, workflows, and scheduling limitations to determine if requested program or program change is possible within existing system.
- Studies existing information processing systems to evaluate effectiveness and develops new systems to improve production or workflow, as required.
- Prepares workflow charts and diagrams to specify in detail operations to be performed by equipment and computer programs and operations to be performed.
- Implements or modifies procedures and/or processes to solve business issues considering alternatives and limitations, environment and desired results.
- Works on projects that may involve interfaces across diverse hardware platforms, with multiple programming languages, development tools or data access tools.
- Conducts studies pertaining to development of new information systems to meet current and projected needs.
- Plans and prepares technical reports, memoranda, and instructional manuals as documentation of program development.
- Upgrades system and correct errors to maintain system after implementation.
Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- 5+ Years of experience in software development, information systems, or related field
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field
- Equivalent combination of experience and education
- Experience with the core AWS services
- Experience with building, or maintaining, cloud-native applications
- Experience with AWS Microservices
- Experience with Java, Spring Boot, Docker, Kubernetes
- Experience with REST and SOAP web services using Java
- Experience with AWS S3 Simple Storage Service
- Experience with IAM Identify and Access Management
- Experience with Oracle DB, Amazon DynamoDB, and PostgreSQL
- Exposure to UI development a plus: Vue js, html5/css3, bootstrap, gulp, node JS
- Experience with ICEfaces, Hibernate, and Spring frameworks would be a plus.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems, provide guidance and instruction to users, interact with user community of varying levels, as well as, the ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users.
